Son, grandson, brother, and uncle, Cole Johnson, was diagnosed with Duchenne Muscular Dystophy when he was four years old. Cole was a fighter, and though he was permanently in a wheelchair at the age of 13, he never let physical limitations stop him. Because of his love of sports, he found ways to stay involved with school athletics by helping with things such as team management, as well as watching sports whenever he could. He especially loved his New England Patriots and wouldn't entertain conversation while a game was on! Cole loved to do things outdoors and was a loving and playful big brother to his sister Taylor and his brother Clay. Anyone who met Cole knew he was an incredibly intelligent young man who maintained a good attitude coupled with a great sense of humor. Cole never let his diagnosis stand in the way of him being the best version of himself; he graduated from Western Illinois University with a bachelors and masters degree. He defied every odd by fighting as long and as hard as he could. In 2022, he began planning his 30th birthday celebration. Sadly, one week before his 30th birthday, Cole passed away at home, forever 29. While September 29, 2022, will always be the day we lost Cole physically, he is in our hearts everyday. He left a mark on the earth by fighting when anyone else would have given up, by laughing when anyone else might have cried, and by loving when anyone else might have given in to their broken heart. Thank you for teaching us how to live better, Cole. Until we see you again...
